Glassblowing

Beginning Glassblowing

The title says it all.  This introductory class teaches the basics of gathering molten glass and using tools and technique to form different shapes on the blowpipe. Teamwork and studio safety practices are covered.  We limit our class size to two students per workstation and they take turns working together as a gaffer and assistant.
Each student will learn how to create floats, vases and glass tumblers and how to add color and character to their creations.
Physical properties of glass is discussed including melting and annealing temperatures.
Each student will leave the class with basic knowledge for working with hot glass and the satisfaction of having made their own hand-blown glass objects.
Participants should wear cotton clothing (no polyester) and have closed-toed shoes. All materials are included.

Call us for class times and prices. (509) 493-8400.

Weekend workshops are available in both Glassblowing and Kilnworking (fusing).  We concentrate on having fun by keeping our workshop class size small and informal.

Glass Fusing

This class is for aspiring artists that are intimidated by hot glass but yet want to create glass artwork.  We also have weekend  and Saturday workshops.

Fusing involves creating designs by cutting colored glass and arranging it in patterns.  The final piece is fused into a single sheet in a kiln.

Also covered is kilnworking techniques in which glass is shaped into bowls plates, etc.

Each student will make several art pieces such as bowls, candle holders and jewelry.
